your presence depressing
my chest sprinkled with a pinched feeling
my ankles ready to give away every word i want to say

its when you're close
scent replaying my memories
your face close to mine
my hand lingering to find yours
our embrace still at mind
your mouth a grim line
your eyes briefly find mine, refusing to be lost

its how i know
our heart breating at a separate pace
any gaze days too late
any hope of our embrace chipped away
faces too similar to yours
we'll never be the same again
